Lands End to John O'Groats by Unicycle
Thanks very much for looking at the site, by getting this far I guess you are either curious about the challenge or think I am stark raving mad. The intention is to ride my 36" Unicycle from Lands End to John O'Groats to become the youngest person to have done so. I will be setting out from Lands End on Monday 27th July 2009 with a view to riding approximately 70 - 75 miles a day. Difficult - yes. Impossible - No! I will be riding the Challenge with my dad, Mike who will ride a stock mountain bike fitted with panniers carrying basic supplies and tools for minor repairs. My mum Caroline will be driving a motorhome which will be the support vehicle and our home for the duration of the challenge. The challenge will be officially recognised by the LEJOG Association hopefully breaking the Guinness World Record along the way. As well as the enjoyment of riding the challenge I aim to raise a couple of quid for the excellent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton Hospital, Hampshire and The Peanut Ward at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. Alongside this I hope to raise awareness to the importance of wearing a cycle helmet while riding and will also donate some of the monies raised to the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust. My daily routine wil involve early starts to avoid both the heat of the day and the rush hour traffic, and late afternoon/early evenings for the same reasons. Although I aim to ride 70 - 75 miles a day this will be terrain dependant, our aim is to complete five 1 1/2 hr sessions a day at an average speed of 10mph, this should do it. If you have read this far, while you may feel I am stark raving mad perhaps you are also curious enough to sponsor me. Very many thanks for taking the time to visit this site, watch this page for updates.
